Genya: Montreal is my soul-city, though I spent my childhood in lovely Ukraine. I love the abundance of art in my adopted home and was inspired by it to become a photographer. With this passion came a deep desire to explore and experience new places, one of which was the country of Costa Rica.
Erik: I spent a happy childhood in Mexico City. My interests primarily involved arts and traveling, so photography was the perfect match. My love for the natural world brought me to Costa Rica, where the family - and taking pictures of lovely human beings and the outdoors – fill my life with joy.
Genya + Erik Shenko: We met in 2007 during a tango. Within a week, we moved in together. Though our ideals are similar, we are different enough to complement each other, and we’re pretty sure we make each other better people every day. After celebrating our own wedding with all of our nearest and dearest under coconut palms at the beach, we are now raising our little daughter, Dara, in beautiful Costa Rica. We started documenting weddings together in 2011 and in the same year we founded Genya + Erik Shenko Photography. After our baby girl was born, we decided to settle in Costa Rica - but we still travel for destination weddings.
So, now you’ve met us. And we want to meet you! Tell us all about yourselves and what you want for your wedding in your first email. We aren’t exaggerating here. Picking a photographer that fits is extremely important. We so are excited to shoot your big day and we want you to feel the same! We can only commit to a certain number of events annually and want to ensure that we’ll work together well. Our service is completely dependent on building a real relationship with you, so we may not answer emails that only include price or date inquiries.
This relationship building is so crucial that we do a free pre-wedding photo session with all of our amazing couples. In order to take the best shots, we need to understand how you two interact. This is one of our favorite parts: it’s casual and fun! Typically, we get together where you live or wherever you’re staying, get some coffee, spend some time together, and take a bunch of informal, romantic photographs. We’ll give you 50 edited shots via our online gallery a few weeks following the get-together – including a few bonus views on our Instagram and Facebook pages before that.
